New Swimwear Line – Former Model Showcases Collection In New York

Brazilian–born Sueli Costa has been involved in the fashion industry for years, first as a runway model and now as a designer.  Her love of fashion inspired Sueli to enter the design and styling aspects of the business. The model-turned-designer has become an ace in her field through her knowledge of the fashion business and her experiences traveling around the world.  The world premiere runway show of the Opera by Sueli Costa swimwear collection will be held on September 8, 2003 at Sessa in New York City as part of the Spring 2004 USA International Fashion Shows.

Soon after graduating from the Paramount Fashion School twenty years ago with a degree in fashion design, Sueli Costa opened a women's apparel factory in Brazil.  A few months later, she opened her first retail store in Cabo Frio, Rio de Janeiro with five more stores soon to follow. Sueli moved to Italy in the mid-1990’s and launched her upscale Opera Lingerie line. Two years later, she opened her first Opera boutique selling swimwear and lingerie in Miami's trendy South Beach area, and it quickly became a hit in the swimwear retail business. The Opera Boutique has become a favorite stop for top models, stylists and celebrities.

Fashion photographers have been inspired by her designs which have been appeared in such publications as “Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Edition” 2002 and 2003 worn by top models including Ana Beatriz Barros, and been featured on the SI website among the "Ultimate Swimsuits of the Decade" worn by supermodel Shakara. Opera by Sueli Costa swimsuits are also featured in this year's “Sports Illustrated” Swimsuit Edition worn by supermodels Petra Nemcova and Bridget Hall, as well as in “Lucky” magazine, just to name a few.

With the success of the Opera line, Sueli has decided to dedicate her time solely to designing swimwear. The line was officially launched to other retailers at the Miami Swim Show in 2001. Sueli also shows her designs at other international fashion trade shows where buyers can see first hand the beauty and style of the swimwear created so that women around the world may experience for themselves Brazilian sensuality combined with Italian elegance.
