Swimwear Designers – DuPont Textiles & Interiors Develops New TACTEL® Yarns For Swimwear

DuPont Textiles & Interiors (DTI) introduced new TACTEL® warp knit yarns specially developed for swimwear at LYCRA® Rendez-Vous in Monte Carlo. Used in combination with LYCRA®, they offer swimwear designers a range of innovative options to enhance touch and aesthetics.

Dana McCauley, DTI's Global Marketing Manager for Swim and Active Sportswear, believes the launch is timely. "The swimwear industry lags behind other sportswear sectors in terms of recent innovation. It must drive multiple purchases to grow the premium market. The new TACTEL® range addresses the need for better differentiated products that will draw women back to the store to buy a second or third swimsuit".

DTI believes there is clear demand for swimwear innovation. Vacations and leisure time are increasingly important to affluent consumer sub-groups and account for an increasing proportion of their disposable income. There is scope to offer more for more in virtually every type of beachwear. DTI research has identified unmet desires for improved comfort, fit and softer touch. Other specifics include color-richness and color-fastness, shape retention and easy care.

Consumers around the world are already familiar with the exceptional softness, soft shaping and distinctive, luxurious styling aesthetics that TACTEL® and LYCRA® combinations bring to hosiery, intimate apparel, tops and other garments. The extension of these benefits, in addition to quick drying and chlorine-resistance will be welcomed by many in the swimwear market.

The new 44 dtex 20 filament TACTEL® yarns are specially designed for warp knit constructions in the mid-to-premium end of the market for fashion swimwear. The have been successfully tested by leading swimwear manufacturers in the United States and commercial fabrics will be available globally from selected LYCRA® Assured mills for brand and retailers planning 2004 collections.
